On the Radioactive Atlas server, you have the option of automating your gates. To do this, you must first build a lever in your workbench. Place it in your base and man it with an NPC. The range is quite long, but not infinite. If in doubt, pop another lever.
In the radial menu of your doors, you can then set whether they should operate automatically.
The following options are available to you:
Auto Open Settings
In the Auto Open Settings you can select whether gates should open automatically as soon as you come near them.
Stay Open Settings
In the Stay Open settings, you can specify whether the gate should remain open as long as you are in the vicinity.
Auto Close Settings
In the Auto Close Settings you can specify whether the door should close automatically after it has opened.
